Video: January Favourites 2015

I'm finally back with a brand new video! Check it out to hear me ramble about the products I've been loving over the past few months - there's some beauty, fashion and random things in there!

Let me know what you've been loving recently in the comments!

Current Fave Lip Combo

I have been obsessed with layering these two lip products recently. Together they create a gorgeous baby pink that looks so flattering and natural on the lips. The formula of these Bare Minerals lipglosses is really nice - smooth and creamy without any stickiness and quite long wearing. Teaming it up with this matte MAC lipstick amps up the opacity of the colour while giving the illusion of plumper lips. Long story short, these two are going to be hanging out in my handbag for while!

What are your favourite everyday lip products?

What I'm Listening To [4] The Hottest 100 Edition!

Voting in Triple J's Hottest 100 is something I look forward to every year. I always end up with at least 50 songs in my shortlist which I have to painstakingly narrow down - this is like Sophie's Choice for me, so it usually takes a while. Australia Day isn't really a holiday I get excited about, so listening to the Hottest 100 is definitely the highlight of the day for me. This year I'm particularly excited because instead of listening to the countdown by myself like usual, I get to spend the afternoon enjoying it with some friends and a few drinks.

You can listen to my top 10 playlist on the Spotify app below!

Let me know who you voted for and what you're getting up to on Australia Day!

My Summer Skin Care Essentials

☼ FACE ☼

Formula 10.0.6 Best Face Forward Daily Foaming Cleanser: I prefer to use foaming cleansers in summer as my skin tends to become much oilier than usual. I love this cleanser by Formula 10.0.6 because it leaves my skin feeling really refreshed and clean, without being overly drying or completely stripping my skin. I like to use it with my Models Prefer Cleansing Brush to exfoliate and really deep clean my pores.

SkinLite Strawberry Yoghurt Masque & Re-Energising Green Tea Masque: Although I love using face masks all year round, in summer I prefer to switch to something that is more clarifying and refreshing and that will to soak up any excess oil on my skin. Both of these masks are great because they make my skin super soft and smooth, but the Green Tea Masque is my fave - it's cooling and so relaxing, perfect for those hot nights.

Crop Daily Facial Moisturiser: This moisturiser is perfect for the summer months as it is super light and is absorbed into my skin really quickly. It add the perfect amount of hydration back into my skin after cleansing and doesn't leave behind any greasiness. The only downside to this moisturiser is that it doesn't contain any SPF, so if I know I'm going to be outside a lot during the day I make sure to apply some sunscreen to my face first.

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub: My lips tend to get really dry and flakey in summer, which is why the next two products are so important to my summer routine. This Lush lip scrub is amazing stuff! I just take a little bit on my finger and rub it all over my lips to scrub away any dry skin. It smells (and tastes) delicious and gets my lips back to baby softness.

Milk & Co. Coconut Kiss Lip Moisturiser*: After a good lip scrub I like to follow up with a lip balm to really moisturise my lips. I have had this one my Milk & Co. in my handbag for a while now and I've been loving it! It also smells amazing and just melts into the lips leaving them hydrated and smooth.

☼ BODY ☼

LeTan SPF30+ Coconut Lotion: Sunscreen is an essential during summer and although I'm not too fussy with what brand I use, I try to look for a formula that doesn't leave too much of a greasy or sticky residue on my skin. This LeTan sunscreen is great because it soaks in quickly and smells amazing!

LeTan Iced Green Tea with Aloe Vera After Sun Spray: For those times when I spend too long in the sun or forget to reapply my sunscreen, a cooling after sun spray is a must have. At home I used to pick a stalk off one of my Mum's aloe vera plants and use the sap straight from the plant - au naturel - but since discovering this after sun spray by LeTan I've been hooked. It feels amazing on sunburn and really helps to add some moisture back into the skin. Keep it in the fridge to make it even more soothing.

Bondi Sands Everyday SPF15 Gradual Tanning Milk: In summer I like to switch my regular body lotion out for a moisturising gradual tanner to add a bit more colour to my skin. Bondi Sands is my favourite brand of self tanner (their Dark Tanning Foam is amazing!) and their gradual tanning milk is super easy to use; no need to worry about it turning out orange or streaky. It also has a light coconut scent and SPF15 - great for everyday sun protection if you're not spending too much time outside.

The Sunday Story #2: New Years Resolutions

I know I'm a bit late to the party with this post, seeing as we're already halfway through January, but I wanted to take some time to really figure out what I want to achieve this year and set some goals for myself both personally and professionally. I've never been good at keeping my resolutions - apart from the time me and my best friend made a resolution to have as much fun as possible in our last year of high school; I can confirm that resolution was well and truly kept!

So here are some of the things I am going to be working towards this year.

⤕ Live a healthier lifestyle ⇺

I know this one is made annually by almost everyone but that is because it's an important one. I don't want to tell myself that I'm going to go for a run everyday or only eat salads because, let's face it, that's never going to happen. I love McDonalds. I love sitting around watching YouTube and just generally being lazy. But I want to try and get outdoors more - explore nature and get some fresh air. I also want to make food choices that are healthier by cooking at home more often instead of eating out. These things are easy enough to achieve but will make a huge difference to my wellbeing.

⤕ Finish 12 books ⇺

I've set this goal to encourage myself to read more often, as it is something I love but just don't make time for. I decided on 12 books as I think reading one book a month is definitely achievable, without being too overwhelming. If you want to check out what I'm reading and keep up with my progress you can follow me on Goodreads!

⤕ Dedicate more time to blogging ⇺

This is probably my biggest goal for the year. I absolutely love blogging. Reading other people's blogs and being a part of this community myself is something that I still find exciting and always stimulating. I feel like I have made a breakthrough recently in terms of figuring out how I want to run my blog and I want to continue to grow and learn throughout the year. I have a lot of things grabbing my attention in my everyday life - work, uni, family, and friends - but I always want to make time for my blog.

⤕ Think more positively ⇺

I am a pessimist by nature (I actually think I'm more of a realist but let's not get into that today), my default reaction in any situation is to look at it from a negative perspective. Even though I know this mindset has caused me a lot of anxiety and unhappiness in my life I have always struggled to change my pattern of thinking. This is something I want to continue to work on this year and is another reason why I would like to start exercising more. I would also love to start meditating and working on clearing my headspace. Let me know if any of you meditate and how you got started, I'd love to hear your advice!

⤕ Quit my day job ⇺

This one is going to be a little harder and even as I write this I'm not sure if I believe that I can achieve it. To cut a long story short, I work in retail and I hate it (what was I saying about being a pessimist?). I have never had a job that I actually enjoyed and over the years I've realised that the only way I'm going to find a job that I enjoy is to follow my own path and create it myself. If I can figure out how to turn what I love doing into my job - and work my ass off in the process! - I will be very proud of myself.

So there you have it, those are the goals I am going to be working towards this year. I feel like I've spilled my guts out in this post and I'm actually a bit nervous about it! Leave me some comments letting me know what your resolutions for 2015 are!

Style Crush: Sienna Miller

Sienna Miller was at the top of my best dressed list after looking through all the outfits from the Golden Globes - although Emma Stone was a close second. I am just in love with her in this Miu Miu gown, it is absolutely stunning. Her simple, glowy makeup and tousled bob pull the whole look together perfectly.

Who was on your best dressed list this year?

New Black Boots

Black boots are my thing. It doesn't matter how many I own, I can always find a reason to buy another pair. My thought process is usually something like:
'These ones are taller than my others.'
'I need a pair with a gold buckle for when I wear a bag with gold hardware.'
'Oooh these ones have a more rounded toe.'
'Patent or suede?'
You get the idea.

The Windsor Smith 'Speck' boots have been on my wish list for absolutely ages, so you can imagine my excitement when I received them as a surprise Christmas present from my Mum last week. I can't wait to wear them! They're the perfect in-between-dressy-and-casual (see what I mean?) boots, I can picture them with skinny jeans and a plaid shirt for shopping and running around town - or to toughen up a soft, floaty dress for a night out. They're also a great hight, easy to walk in and I'm sure once the leather has softened up a bit they will be super comfortable.

Yay for new shoes!

The Sunday Story #1: Exploring the Dandenong Ranges

I've decided to start a new series this year called The Sunday Story. I'm planning to make these miscellaneous-type posts, which will include everything from recaps of different activities and summaries of the past week, to my thoughts on various topics, as well as random musings and stories from different moments in my life, with some advice thrown in for good measure! I'm going to be posting Sunday Stories sporadically to begin with, but I'm hoping to eventually have a new one up every week. I hope you all enjoy these posts, it's a series I'm really looking forward to, as I think it will be both challenging for myself and a great way to introduce a more personal side to my blog. photo 1_zps450053eb.jpg photo 4_zpsf058e09a.jpg photo 3_zps5c6b16ea.jpg photo 2_zps7ebe9eb6.jpg photo 6_zpsc72d812f.jpg photo 5_zps02bf4b87.jpg This first Sunday Story is short and sweet, I thought I would share a few photos I captured while my boyfriend and I were exploring the Dandenong Ranges last week. We walked one of the easier trails, as my fitness level is less than impressive and I probably would have gone into cardiac arrest if we had attempted the 1000 Steps hike. Unfortunately these photos didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, somehow in my dazed, sweaty state I failed to notice that my camera was set to macro the entire time. The highlight of this trip was definitely our encounter with a little foraging Echidna! He was completely adorable. Even though my photos don't do it justice, take my word for it, the Dandenong Ranges are stunningly beautiful and well worth exploring if you're ever visiting Victoria.

Minimal & Dewy

 photo MinimalampDewy_zps5df9331f.png

In summer I love to completely simplify my make up routine and stick to a more minimal look. This is not only more comfortable to wear during 30 degree weather but it also looks effortless and pretty. I like to stick with a more sheer base and avoid powders (other than highlighter) to keep the skin looking fresh and dewy. Using a cream blush adds a soft wash of colour to the cheeks and a coloured balm adds some subtle colour while keeping the lips soft and moisturised. Finish it all off with some mascara to open up the eyes and lengthen lashes.

It's as easy as that! I can get this routine done in five minutes, perfect for when you're in a rush or can't be bothered with a full face of make up while you're on holiday.

Let me know what your make up routine entails during the summer months!
