The Sunday Story #2: New Years Resolutions

I know I'm a bit late to the party with this post, seeing as we're already halfway through January, but I wanted to take some time to really figure out what I want to achieve this year and set some goals for myself both personally and professionally. I've never been good at keeping my resolutions - apart from the time me and my best friend made a resolution to have as much fun as possible in our last year of high school; I can confirm that resolution was well and truly kept!

So here are some of the things I am going to be working towards this year. 

⤕ Live a healthier lifestyle ⇺ 

I know this one is made annually by almost everyone but that is because it's an important one. I don't want to tell myself that I'm going to go for a run everyday or only eat salads because, let's face it, that's never going to happen. I love McDonalds. I love sitting around watching YouTube and just generally being lazy. But I want to try and get outdoors more - explore nature and get some fresh air. I also want to make food choices that are healthier by cooking at home more often instead of eating out. These things are easy enough to achieve but will make a huge difference to my wellbeing.

⤕ Finish 12 books ⇺

I've set this goal to encourage myself to read more often, as it is something I love but just don't make time for. I decided on 12 books as I think reading one book a month is definitely achievable, without being too overwhelming. ⤕ Dedicate more time to blogging ⇺

This is probably my biggest goal for the year. I absolutely love blogging. Reading other people's blogs and being a part of this community myself is something that I still find exciting and always stimulating. I feel like I have made a breakthrough recently in terms of figuring out how I want to run my blog and I want to continue to grow and learn throughout the year. I have a lot of things grabbing my attention in my everyday life - work, uni, family, and friends - but I always want to make time for my blog.

⤕ Think more positively ⇺

I am a pessimist by nature (I actually think I'm more of a realist but let's not get into that today), my default reaction in any situation is to look at it from a negative perspective. Even though I know this mindset has caused me a lot of anxiety and unhappiness in my life I have always struggled to change my pattern of thinking. This is something I want to continue to work on this year and is another reason why I would like to start exercising more. I would also love to start meditating and working on clearing my headspace. Let me know if any of you meditate and how you got started, I'd love to hear your advice!

⤕ Quit my day job ⇺

This one is going to be a little harder and even as I write this I'm not sure if I believe that I can achieve it. To cut a long story short, I work in retail and I hate it (what was I saying about being a pessimist?). I have never had a job that I actually enjoyed and over the years I've realised that the only way I'm going to find a job that I enjoy is to follow my own path and create it myself. If I can figure out how to turn what I love doing into my job - and work my ass off in the process! - I will be very proud of myself.
