All About My Skin

This post is going to be resource I can refer you back to whenever I review any skincare products. It's important to remember that we all have different skin types and the products which suit my skin type and work best for me could be ineffective or even detrimental to your skin. I'm going into a bit more detail about the history of my skin and my skin type, which will hopefully give you a bit more insight into why I like the products that I do and how they work for my skin.

A (kind of) Brief History of My Skin

I consider myself to be somewhat lucky when it comes to my skin's appearance and health (although the 14 year old version of myself may disagree). Even as a teenager I never suffered with severe acne, most of the time I had some small bumps on my forehead, which never came to a head, and some bigger breakouts on my chin. The first blackheads on my nose also started to appear at this time.

Going on the pill at 16 really changed the appearance of my skin and helped clear up the small bumps on my forehead as well as reducing the severity of the other breakouts I had.  After switching from the pill to a contraceptive implant a while later I noticed my skin returning to what I would describe as its 'natural state'; although I started getting a few more breakouts again, overall my skin was a lot clearer. I would just like to note that would not necessarily recommend going on the pill to clear up your skin. My thoughts on the pill have changed dramatically since I used it as a teenager. This could be a whole post in itself, one that I would be happy to write if you're interested in hearing my thoughts and experience.

On another important side note, I have a lot of food allergies. Discovering what they are and avoiding them has also made a dramatic difference in my skin's appearance. This could also be a whole post on its own, one that I am definitely planning on writing in the future.

My Skin Type and Problem Areas

Generally speaking I would describe my skin type as being normal, with it tending to be slightly oilier over summer and slightly drier in winter. I usually switch up my skincare throughout the year dependant on how my skin is feeling and what it needs.

I am fairly lucky in that I rarely suffer any major breakouts. Around that time of the month I tend to get some more congestion around my chin area but I only get a pimple popping up every now and then. My biggest issue with my skin are the large pores and blackheads on my nose and chin - I have been working on conquering these since my teenage years! The other issue I have with my skin is uneven texture and tone; I have some areas of scarring, and some redness around my nose and mouth.

So this is what I'm working with when I'm testing out skincare products for a review. The products I choose to try out and my experience with them is based solely on how they work for my skin. I hope this post has been helpful in giving you some context for my skincare reviews and to make it easier for you to determine if the product is right for your own skin.

Please leave any questions you have in the comments and I will get back to you!
